Quick Time VR Single and Multinode Panoramas by Paul Simmons at Virtual Horizons January 5th - 8th 1998 for MacWorld March 1998.
It is not a trick of the camera that is the cause of the almost exclusive absence of human activity within these panoramas. Most of the panos were done in the most foul weather conditions whether it was gale force winds in Polperro (the week of the Selsey tornado ) or hail the size of golf balls that turned the promenade of St Ives white within a two minute shower. The locals were wise and weren’t around especially as the St Ives and Polperro panos were done from 8 a.m onwards. I love Cornwall in all its incarnations and hope you get an insight into the complementary weather conditions that have moulded the county for centuries. I wanted to get on to Bodmin Moor and get more of the rugged landscape but next time I hope the conditions are kinder.
1) St Ives 11 node Multinode - In between the heavy hail and alternating rain showers I managed to get eleven nodes done that give you a virtual tour of St Ives including the Tate Gallery nestled in between the houses. The walls of the gallery are literally two feet away from the houses. The sun popped out for a couple of the nodes.
2) Polperro’s 4 nodes were done in heavy wind with the harbour one, being a partial pano. This is one of Cornwall's most popular destinations.
3) Three single panos of Fowey, Looe (I let my hat blow away, it was saving either the tripod or the hat... Thanks to the lady who saved it by stamping on it as she walked across the bridge) and the inside of Truro Cathedral which is a handheld pano as tripods are not allowed inside. (Thanks to Mr Cole the verger who allowed me to get nearer the altar in another pano. ).
Here at Virtual Horizons Jim Mackay and I hope you enjoy our panos. Please read the main Read Me and don’t forget to press the Show hot spots button on the movie player to find your way around the multinodes.
